hi! time for a break from our scheduled programming (me venting over my deranged obsession) and onto another thing. i believe this is what some would call a "web shrine". idk what that really means though...

warning, this is based on whatever i could scrounge up and my (nine year old self's) memories, so i very well could be wrong

petpet park was a now-defunct kids mmo, started in 2008, that was a spinoff of the far more popular and well known online game, neopets. i've actually never played neopets. from what i gathered it was very very different from petpet park. i played it as a kid and remember it being fairly charming if very paywalled. it seems to me to be very forgotten compared to similar games of the time

the map was split into a bunch of areas which varied a lot thematically. this is what i most liked about the game, the environments were very creative and i was very fond of the game's art style

specific areas/things i remember

• there was a volcano that served noodles

• a giant spider who lived in a tunnel (his name was jorguss, see image). he was very polite. i remember he wanted gemstones for some reason. or maybe it was mushrooms...
• in the far corner of the map, there was a village of petpets who had all been turned into zombies by a curse. the quest line here involved you trying to cure all the zombies, but failing, and eventually all the zombies had to accept there was no way to go back to their old lives. slightly sad for a children's game.
• there was a faerie forest which i remember being obsessed with

it had a bunch of tv ads, which i believe is how i learned of the game

there were pets for the petpets, called petpetpets (not a joke). the only one i remember was a small pink dog-looking thing.

like many games of this type, you could choose between a variety of creatures to play as. i liked the oukins, which were one of the default creatures. weird cat owl things.

anyway it was shut down in 2014, after neopets was bought out by a different company

i just wanted to reminisce really. a microcosm of my longing to return to things that will never come back to me! or in other cases, maybe never existed in the first place. thats one thing i have in common with him. ha.

also this page on their site is somehow still up announcing "beta testing" despite the fact the site started 16 years ago and closed 10 years ago. lmao

i'll probably update this when i remember more...
